Radiant Medical's flexible temperature control system paves the way for new therapies
Every year, hundreds of thousands of patients are cooled with ice packs and cooling blankets as part of treatment for stroke, heart attack, brain injury and more. A drop of just a few degrees can buy precious time and save lives
Radiant Medical has pioneered new technology for accurate and rapid temperature management. An expandable thermal-exchange balloon catheter is placed in the vein leading to the heart. Cool or warm saline is continuously circulated through the helically wound catheter to cool or warm the blood without adding fluid to the body.
After interviewing several prospective partners, Radiant selected BC Tech to develop their SetPoint™ temperature control console.
From concept through pilot production:
- BC Tech developed a triple-microprocessor driven controller and Peltier based heat exchange system capable of precise and responsive temperature regulation.
- A comprehensive and easy-to-use interface for thermal control and data logging.
- An easy-to-service mobile console for rapid transit to and from treatment areas.
BC Tech helped achieve UL 2061 and IEC 60601 clearance and produced pilot-production units for clinical testing and market research. The technology has proved effective and has enabled Radiant to investigate new applications for temperature therapy.
Five years of University research produced countless breakthroughs in ablation techniques and technology
Microsulis applied this research to the development of a next-generation microwave ablation system for coagulating and ablating soft-tissues like tumors and cancers. A variety of disposable microwave applicators and temperature probes ensures the MTA is appropriate for almost any surgical, surface or percutanious ablation procedure.
Microsulis turned to BC Tech for development and pilot production of the MTA's microwave generator console.
- BC Tech developed safe and reliable, variable output microwave generator hardware compliant with IEC 60601 standards for medical electronics.
- Produced accurate energy-control software and an intuitive user-interface.
- Designed an attractive, ergonomic and affordable-to-manufacture enclosure and cart.
BC Tech produced several MTA systems for clinical trials. The MTA will be marketed in the United States when it receives FDA clearance.
A new level of flexibility in biomolecule quantification
The Erenna System™ is a highly sensitive automated life-science instrument for quantifying proteins and metabolites from plasma, serum, or other sample types.
Singulex trusted BC Tech to coordinate third-party resources with our development teams to drive their Erenna System™ to completion.
Development through manufacture:
- Capillary flow fluidics, laser-induced fluorescence, highly sensitive detection optics module and advanced robotics.
- Revolutionary tagging technology for precise quantification of target molecules.
- An active dynamic wash process for low carryover and maximum efficiency.
Six months of collaboration resulted in a complete biomolecule quantification instrument that balances sensitivity and sample/reagent volume to match the exact needs of a laboratory. The Singulex Erenna System™ instrument is under production at BC Tech and is poised for success in the market.
“The design staff at BC Tech was responsive in taking our instrument from prototype to an ISO-ready industrialized product.”
