The LifeShirt is a non-invasive ambulatory monitoring system that continuously collects and correlates cardiac, pulmonary and physiological data.
Pulse Oximeter's simplicity and usefulness could earn it a place in every health care provider's pocket.
The patient inserts a finger in a small handheld device. In three seconds, the Doctor learns the patient's heart rate and blood oxygen level and has stored the information for later analysis. If necessary, the data is printed or a sensor is attached for remote monitoring.
That's Dr. Paul Levin's vision for a new breed of pulse oximeter that is so easy to use, every Doctor in America wants one.
Dr. Levin turned to BC Tech to help bring this concept to market. We worked intimately with his company, Palco Labs, to provide industrial and mechanical design services that met his strict requirements for accuracy, weight, size, ease of use and cost to manufacture.
An LED beam sensor to detect light absorption of arterial hemoglobin for fast and accurate readings is paired with an ergonomic enclosure and easy to use interface. The resulting device is popular among health care providers for its effectiveness, flexibility and low cost.
Enabling Surgeons to detect ischemia before it's too late
Thousands of Americans die every year as a result of surgical mistakes that cut blood flow to critical organs or systems. Up to 3% of patients undergoing routine aortic repair develop colon ischemia so severe that it results in death or severe disability.
Ischemia is treatable if discovered quickly. The T-Stat® 303 is the first versatile probe based instrument that measure hemoglobin saturation and alerts the health care provider when ischemia is detected. The T-Stat® can be used during surgical procedures as a warning device or as a diagnostic tool for treating ischemia complications.
Spectros partnered with BC Tech for a complete concept through manufacture solution
- BC Tech implemented and refined proprietary technology for measurement of venous saturation (St02) in a variety of tissues.
- Designed affordable enclosure for first-generation product launch.
- Manufactured pilot and production units.
The Spectros T-Stat® 303 is used in operating rooms across the United States. BC Tech is currently developing Spectros' next-generation ischemia detection system.
A revolutionary ambulatory monitoring system
VivoMetrics needed to design and manufacture a preliminary remote patient monitoring system to quickly and inexpensively prove feasibility and secure investments. They turned to BC Tech for a complete development solution.
BC Tech launched a breakneck engineering spree that produced a complete sensor vest and data recorder package in less than four months. This success rewarded VivoMetrics with additional funding and earned BC Tech continued work on the project.
From concept through production:
- We designed and calibrated an attractive and comfortable vest with dozens of embedded sensors.
- We leveraged existing technologies by developing a hardware and software interface for easy data recording and analysis on a handheld computer.
- We manufactured the first 300 LifeShirt™ Systems for market research and clinical trials.
The LifeShirt is now used in more than 1,000 hospitals worldwide for clinical trials, academic research and home sleep diagnostics.
